Anthony Cudahy, Untitled (1) and (2), 2012 (18″ x 24″, ink on paper, wooden frame). $600 each.

Back by popular demand, The Art Dossier has added two new works by Anthony Cudahy to their collection for Uprise Art.

Inspired by his earlier series of paintings, Anthony has continued to look deeply at the lives of others by referencing real life photographs from his family and friends’ archives. These new drawings, completed this year, are sourced from a friend’s family photo album and touch on a very personal moment. While the ink on paper drawings capture something private, the artist’s choice to crop the image in Untitled 1 gives the drawing the appearance of a bucolic still life or a wild rose garden, leaving the viewer to question what they are actually looking at. Untitled 2 gives a few more clues as to what is being depicted, but together they create a quiet, detailed and intimate scene.

Most recently Anthony has completed two zines, SLOW YOUTH and Where Do You GO, both available for purchase on Slow Youth. WHERE DO YOU GO TO? involves several drawings relating around the desire to lose one’s self. In the face of the possibility of nothingness or meaninglessness, the desire for relief by becoming a part of something “bigger” than yourself grows. SLOW YOUTH is also available at Printed Matter, Desert Island, Bergen Comics, and Un Regard Moderne in Paris, France. “SLOW YOUTH brings together five artists working in unique mediums, from drawing to photographs to collage and comics.
