Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman created this giant Rubber Duck that measures nearly 12 meters high as part of his Rubber Duck Project in 2009. Since then the Duck has traveled around the world, floating down rivers and other major international water-ways spreading cheer or maybe a bit of confusion everywhere it goes.

What makes this project so unique is, as the artist says in his own words:

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate (against) people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

The Duck’s purpose seems simply to bring a smile to people’s face and to provide some perspective in this crazy world. Maybe the duck serves to teach us a lesson not to take life too seriously, or maybe in the end it is just an elaborate prank to make us all laugh. Either way, we hope we come into contact with this duckie ourselves soon.
