Christo decides to temporarily delay Over the River project
The Art Dossier on August 2, 2012 with 0 CommentsThe three pending legal challenges have taken their toll on Christo’s plans for his large-scale Colorado-based installation. He has chosen to temporarily delay the installation which was scheduled to begin in August 2015. The plans are now up in the air while Christo figures out what his next moves are.
Construction for the project will take 28 months and as a result, work ordering equipment and supplies would have to start next week. Because of the uncertainty of the project’s future, Christo decided this can’t happen.
“It (delay) is not easy, but our team made the wise decision,” Christo said. “This is not the first time — Running Fence (mid-1970s in California) was delayed for over a year and a half,” because of an appeal. (via chieftain.com)
Christo said work is continuing on big horn sheep management issues and an event management plan, which should be completed within the next 60 days.
